Murphy the beagle was found dumped and left for dead on a rural country road in Kentucky in late 2025. He was skinny, covered in ticks, had deep scars from animal attacks, and had six teeth cracked down to the bone that had to be removed. When we heard about his situation, we knew we had to drive out and help this poor dog. Despite everything he has been through, he is sweet as hell and just pure innocence. He loves kids and other dogs and is a great little guy.

In early September 2026, the veterinarians also discovered at least three BBs or shotgun pellets lodged in his body. We had no idea they were there. It’s so sad to think about what some people do to animals.

He’s doing a lot better now, but his health issues have turned out to be far more extensive than we anticipated. He suffers from seizures and throat and digestive issues, and he recently injured his CCL (the canine equivalent of the human ACL). ~ The vet bills and specialist visits are adding up quickly.

Because of the extent of the previous neglect and abuse, he's going to need ongoing medical care. But seeing this little guy finally get to just be a happy dog makes all the hard work worth it. He’s made a couple of doggy friends and is absolute best buds with the neighborhood kids. He still shows signs of what he went through, but he’s building his confidence slowly but surely.

He just started feeling free enough to play (this is a new development!), he’s put on enough weight to be at a healthy body weight, and he’s grown a nice coat of fur. Belly rubs were completely foreign to him (he was very much WTF! about it at first) but seeks them them now from his close family.
